About Panasonic
The founder Kōnosuke Matsushita first began this company in the year 1918 when he started as a duplex lamp sockets vendor. The founder went on to market bicycle lamps, light fixtures, motors, and other products under the name National. The company experienced further growth after World War II while supplying radios and other appliances. After meeting with American dealers in 1961, Matsushita moved the company’s direction towards producing televisions sets for the US customers. This was when the name Panasonic was coined. Eventually they released more products including black and white TV's, electrical blenders, fridges, rice cookers, color TV's and microwave ovens. Panasonic debuted Technics in the year 1965 which began as a branch marketing a hi-fidelity audio speaker, with its most famous product being the SL-1200 record players and other categories of turntables. Some partnerships include the "Anam National" joint venture with Anam Group in South Korea. In 1973 and in November 1990, the company acquired the American media company MCA Inc. for US$6.59 billion. Approximately 80% of MCA was sold to Seagram Company for $7 billion in April 1995 and in 1998, Panasonic sold Anam National to Anam Electronics.
The company has a global staff of about 330,000 and 580 subsidiary companies. Panasonic has been growing significantly and has had a total revenue of 7,846,216 million yen recorded in 2012. Currently Panasonic manufactures products in the Consumer, Solutions and Components & Devices market. This can include items in AVC Networks, Eco Solutions, Appliances, Industrial Devices, etc.
