Turbonormalizing System Parts

Turbonormalizing system is the process of compressing the air flowing into an airplane’s engine to mimic that at sea level in order to achieve better performance. A normally aspirated engine has no modifications or systems that alters the airflow it receives. As an aircraft climbs higher and higher, and the air becomes thinner and thinner, the aircraft’s engine receives less and less air through its induction system. This means that the pressure of air and fuel entering the engine’s manifold is weaker, which reduces engine performance. 

A turbonormalizing system works identically to how a turbocharger works but differs in intention. Both work by using a turbine-driven forced induction device to force more compressed air into an engine’s combustion chamber, which is powered by a turbine driven by the engine’s exhaust gas. While a turbocharger aims to boost performance above the baseline, a turbonormalizing system is designed to maintain an engine’s performance outside of the baseline operating environment.  Essentially, an aircraft’s engine with a turbonormalizing system will perform the same at 18,000 feet as it would at sea level, because the turbonormalizing system is compressing the thinner air to the point that it has the same pressure as sea level.
